Drowning in Blue at S.E.A Aquarium

8:00 PM

S.E.A Aquarium is the biggest aquarium in the world. It is located at Singapore’s ‘happy island’ -the Sentosa Island- and occupies 8 ha of land -almost equal to the size of 8 football field! The MRT Station nearest to the island is Harbour Front, it gets you off at VIVO City mall. From there, take a smaller train to the island and stop at Waterfront Station -it is the station for both S.E.A Aquarium and Universal Studios Singapore. Besides the aquarium, Sentosa has two more Marine Life Park Attraction establishments: Adventure Cove and Dolphin Island.

A lot of recreational activities can be done inside the Sentosa Island, which means if you intended to do everything available there, you'd need a full day or two. Here's my rough calculation of the time needed to explore the island:
*Universal Studios - half a day
*S.E.A Aquarium -2-4 hours (It depends on how much you like observing marine life. I got stuck on one of the sections so it took me longer to explore the place.)
There are also the Siloso Beach, the 4D Cinema, and the newly opened Madam Tussauds Museum. After sunset, you may also watch Song of The Sea multimedia show. The aquarium itself is open from 10am to 7pm, so plan your day accordingly.

Enough with the introduction, let's go inside!

The concept of the building is very interesting. It is like slowly entering a portal into another life! The building consists of two levels: the upper floor and the lower floor. The upper floor, where you are the first time you get in, is like a big harbour. There are a giant ark made from wood, a lot of mini sailboats -all of them look like they are floating- and also old-style trading posts showing items from all across Asia.

After passing the harbour, there is an escalator to reach the lower floor, which houses the aquarium. It gives you the feeling of going underwater! Let the adventure begin! (I will not say much after this. Enjoy the pictures!)

Welcome to the fish kingdom! :)

Snacks, anyone?
Actually, at the Indo-Pacific Bottlenose Dolphin section inside the S.E.A Aquarium, you will not be able to see dolphins that much. The dolphins live in a somewhat separate place called Dolphin Island, and I'm not really sure but it seems that it is located next to the aquarium? And what you can see from S.E.A is some sort of an extension of it? People who pay some extra cash can play with the dolphins, and others (including me, myself, and I) may watch from afar.

There are six options to play with the dolphins: Dolphin Discovery (SGD 198 adult, SGD 188 child), Dolphin Adventure (SGD 248 adult, SGD 238 child), Dolphin Trek (SGD 248 adult, SGD 238 child), Dolphin Observer (SGD 68 adult, SGD 58 child), Dolphin VIP (SGD 398 adult, SGD 388 child), and Trainer for a Day (SGD 498 adult, SGD 488 child). Don't forget to book first through the RW Sentosa official site! Now, more pictures!

The Open Ocean Zone, built at 8.3 metres tall and 36 metres wide, gives a wonderful view of many different species of fish and sharks. At certain times, visitors may observe the feeding time, which I think most people watch to see sharks at their meal time. This section has three levels of viewing location, so you can choose your favourite spot to gaze at this giant aquarium. There is a kids playground area on the second level, where kids can do some colouring or chat with the staffs.

Feeding frenzy!
All in all, I'm very satisfied with S.E.A Aquarium! It's really amazing. And really big. Way bigger than my expectation! After walking inside the aquarium for a while, I started to think "Where the hell is the exit?". Don't forget to bring a light jacket, it's quite cold inside. Have fun!

*Tip: I bought my ticket at Anaya Tour and Travel (Click Here for their website), as they offered a great deal: SGD 25 for one adult ticket! Although you have to take the physical ticket at their office in China Town, the given price is really worth it. I accidentally found their website when I was browsing.
